The Aptos ecosystem is entering a new acceleration phase as the Aptos Foundation and Aptos Labs announce a commitment to inject over $50 million to boost projects within the ecosystem, ranging from internal products, protocol infrastructure, research, to strategic funds for trading partners and AI.
According to an announcement posted on platform X, Aptos emphasizes that the financial market is strongly shifting to blockchain and in the near future, “AI agents” could become the main participants in these markets. According to the development team, the $50 million investment will be allocated across the Aptos system to pave the way for the next generation of on-chain AI applications.
A notable part of the plan is the expansion of the on-chain perpetual exchange Decibel, a project directly incubated by Aptos Labs. Although it only launched on the mainnet in February, Decibel has recorded over $1 billion in cumulative trading volume.
Alongside trading, Aptos is also making a significant bet on AI with a “hot storage” protocol for autonomous agents named Shelby. According to the development team, trading is just the beginning of the workload performed by AI on the blockchain. The next phase will be data – where licensed datasets for AI training are exchanged between agents and bought and sold on decentralized marketplaces. Shelby is designed as the infrastructure layer to facilitate this process at high speed and large scale, reflecting the emerging “AI agents economy” trend in 2026.
This shift is occurring alongside the strong growth of stablecoins on Aptos. Data from DefiLlama shows that the stablecoin market capitalization on the network has increased nearly tenfold since the end of 2024, peaking at around $1.93 billion in February 2026 before adjusting to about $1.66 billion. Although the total value locked (TVL) is currently around $270.8 million – lower than the peak of $1.3 billion recorded in December 2024 and May 2025 – the expansion of stablecoins is often seen as an important indicator of liquidity and long-term on-chain financial activity.
