Metaplanet continues to solidify its position as one of the largest publicly listed companies holding Bitcoin globally by announcing the purchase of an additional 2,823 BTC in Q2 2026. This new acquisition increases the total amount of Bitcoin held by the Japanese company to 43,000 BTC, moving closer to its goal of accumulating 100,000 BTC before the end of 2026.

According to the report released on July 2, Metaplanet spent approximately 35.9 billion yen (equivalent to about 222 million USD) to purchase Bitcoin over the past three months. The average cost of the Bitcoin purchased in the quarter was about 12.7 million yen, equivalent to nearly 78,600 USD per BTC.

After the latest purchase, the total amount Metaplanet has invested in its Bitcoin accumulation strategy amounts to approximately 659.2 billion yen (approximately 4.07 billion USD). The average cost of all 43,000 BTC is currently around 15.3 million yen, equivalent to nearly 94,800 USD/BTC. This move indicates that Metaplanet remains steadfast in its strategy to make Bitcoin a core reserve asset on its balance sheet, despite the cryptocurrency market experiencing a volatile quarter.

Not only increasing its Bitcoin holdings, Metaplanet also reported that its Bitcoin Income Generation program continued to generate significant revenue in Q2. This program uses Bitcoin options strategies to generate additional profits from the Bitcoin holdings instead of merely passive storage.
